Manufacturing inspection comparison
Overview AI vs Azure AI Vision
Keep custom part inspection local and operator-ready.
Choose a local inspection workflow your quality team can set up, run, and improve. Compare the camera, tools, and production handoff that matter on your line.

Why choose Overview for your production line?
Overview is the stronger choice for a locally operated manufacturing inspection with tools and industrial interfaces in the product workflow. Spark makes the setup approachable; OVX extends the imaging range without requiring a cloud inference call for each part.
What that looks like on the line
For printed-code and presence checks, demonstrate the actual image, inspection, and machine response at the station. Overview keeps those needs together in the same buying decision.

| Your decision | Overview AI | Azure AI Vision |
|---|---|---|
| What you are buying | Overview AIA manufacturing inspection product: camera choices, AI tools, and factory connectivity built around the quality task. | Azure AI VisionAzure AI Vision provides image-analysis capabilities through Microsoft’s AI services. Microsoft has announced a September 25, 2028 retirement for the Image Analysis service, with migration guidance for affected workloads. |
| Camera and hardware | Overview AISpark combines camera, lighting, and compute. OVX adds 65 MP, thermal, and customer GigE Vision camera configurations. | Azure AI VisionThe service must be connected to camera acquisition and the surrounding application. Confirm the specific API and deployment before evaluating lifecycle requirements. |
| Setup and operation | Overview AIBrowser-based setup and local production inspection. Sparky assists with tool selection, recipes, operator screens, and Library questions on Spark. | Azure AI VisionMicrosoft plans to retire the Image Analysis service. Other Microsoft AI and OCR products have their own availability and migration plans. |
| Production integration | Overview AINative industrial protocols, including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, MQTT, and OPC UA. Configure and validate the machine handshake for the selected product. | Azure AI VisionInclude the service call, network behavior, machine result mapping, and operator controls in the production application scope. |

Choose the Overview system for your inspection
Start with the smallest detail you must see, the full field of view, and the result your machine needs. Our lineup gives you a clear choice for compact stations and more demanding imaging.
Compact smart cameras
OV Spark and Spark Pro
Choose 1.2 MP Spark or 5 MP Spark Pro. Combine ten AI and rule-based tools for checks such as text, counts, dimensions, and part position. Sparky helps choose tools, build recipes, create operator screens, and answer Library questions.
Production inspection and onboard Sparky run on the camera. No software key or subscription is required. Spark has IP66 protection with the standard 6 mm lens. Optional Defect Studio uses the cloud to generate training images.

OVX High Res, Thermal, and Core
Choose a 65 MP High Res configuration for fine features across a larger assembly, Thermal for appropriate infrared inspection, or Core to connect a customer-provided GigE Vision camera or sensor.
OVX runs Overview inspection software on industrial edge hardware. Match the optics and sensing method to the visible or thermal condition you need to inspect, then validate the complete cycle on your parts.

Bring representative good parts, known defects, and the line’s production requirements. We will help you evaluate image quality, missed defects, false rejects, changeover, and the full trigger-to-result cycle. See how the operator reviews a failed check and how your team validates an update before it reaches production.
Talk to a vision engineer →Common questions about Overview and Azure AI Vision
- Is Microsoft retiring all Azure vision and OCR products?
- No. The retirement notice covers Image Analysis and identifies migration options for affected workloads. Overview gives manufacturers a local inspection workflow with camera choices and factory connectivity.
- Should I choose OV Spark or OVX?
- Choose OV Spark or the higher-resolution Spark Pro for compact inspection with ten AI and rule-based tools and Sparky assistance. Choose OVX High Res for a 65 MP configuration, OVX Thermal for appropriate infrared applications, or OVX Core for a customer-provided GigE Vision camera. We will match the imaging and inspection tools to your parts.
- Does Overview require a cloud connection to inspect parts?
- Production inspection runs locally. Onboard Sparky also runs on the Spark camera. Optional Defect Studio uses cloud processing to generate synthetic training images; that optional preparation workflow is separate from production inspection.
